Sunday Slides
Its hot and flat so todays Sunday Slides are an ode to ocean swims, making the most of the still days and lazy hazy summery slides .. enjoy ..
We could watch this beautiful gem over and over again, the trailer to Nathan Oldfield's the Heart and the Sea .. hope this gives your sunny Sunday an extra boost ..
Lets take our lead from the Roxy girls, they haven't been twiddling their thumbs while its flat at the Roxy Pro in Biarritz .. instead they have been experiencing the city from the ocean in kayaks and on SUPs... lets get out there! :) Happy Sunday!

Stylish Cycle Wear for Sistas!
Anna G guiding our cycle surfari in 2010 |
We're kind of excited about our cycle surfari in September with the Big Friday crew, the first trip is now full but we still have spaces on the second week if you are tempted to join us!
What to pack though? Capsule surf wardrobe no problem, throw cycling in to the mix and we're all a bit confused.com Fortunately for us we have Anna Glowinski on our speed dial .. Anna G is not only the big sista of the cycle surfari, it was her crazy idea to start with; she also designs her own collection of womens cycle wear called Ana Nichoola, the perfect place for us to find some stylish cycle wear for our trip!
Here's our pick of the 2013 collection:
The Hello Yello Jacket - we love the name and we love to be super visible when we are cycling so this is the perfect jacket to keep us safe and also importantly .. dry! Even in sunny France we need to be prepared for showers! |
We love this Cycle Sailor vest top, its moisture wicking fabric should mean we still feel fresh when we stop for a game of boule in the village & it will look cute with one of our bright Oakley sports bras underneath. Cute price too £19 |
The Velo Jacket .. Our absolute fave from the Ana Nichoola shop and almost a necessity as we will be cycling in the land of the velo and we don't want any confusion about what we are doing .. say it loud and proud! |
You had us at the words 'padded bottom' .. we need these summery sun cat cycle shorts, our hands need some 'naked hand' gloves and we probably don't need the star leggings but they make us happy so we'll wear those too! |

Your Surf Life: Massage & Surfing
We all love a relaxing massage for mind, body and spirit but is it more than just a guilty pleasure, do regular massage treatments help us to enhance our surfing progress as well?
Rachael Taylor from Innate life explains the relationship between massage treatment and how we perform on a wave.
"Massage has many benefits, such as relaxation, tension relief, improved circulation and flexibility but it also improves sporting performance.
If you have ever woken up with a stiff neck you will have noticed the impact it has on your rotation. During surfing flexibility is key to performance, restrictions such as a stiff neck will affect the way you turn as we all know that the rotation of the head is where the turn starts. If you can only turn your head slightly then your turn in the water will not be as dynamic.
Regular massage is likely to improve your performance because it helps keep you flexible therefore optimising your surfing performance."
Innate life offer Surf & Sport Specific, Deep Tissue, Aromatherapy, Swedish and Relaxation massage in the Newquay area and on many Surf Sistas trips and holidays.
Owen Wright at last years Quik Pro in France - super flexible! |

Sunday Slides
Heres our selection of Sunday slides for you to kick back with before Andy Murray wins Wimbledon today :)
Thanks Emilie Lovaine for sharing this vid by the Pret a Surf ladies yesterday .. we all know that feeling when you turn back to look at that 2 ft wave and it looks like a mountain!
Meet Ishita Malaviya, India's first female surfer and one of the talented ladies featuring in the upcoming surf documentary Beyond the Surface alongside Emi Koch, Crystal Thornburg-Homcy, Liz Clark, Lauren Hill and Kate Baldwin.
"Beyond The Surface" A Documentary Film Project from Dave Homcy on Vimeo.
We are suckers for a Seea video, always mellow slides, dreamy cinematography, lovely neoprene and theres an endearing stoked scream at the end of this one ...

We are Festival Friends!
We are super excited that the London Surf Film Festival will be back for a 3rd year at the Riverside studios in Hammersmith & this year Surf Sistas are a Friend of the Festival which means we will have some exciting giveaways surrounding the event and we will be there supporting, particularly the involvement of female surf film makers - we want to see more of you! There will be four days and nights of the latest international surf film premieres .. who can forget last years heart warming North of the Sun which quite rightly won viewers choice! Not to mention screenings of the shortlisted Shorties, the short film contest that YOU can enter!
The Approaching lines room at the festival is back for a second year, bigger and better, its a great place to check out surf related art, meet surf artisans and chat about their work, have a beer, listen to music and catch up with friends old and new ..
Dates for your diary are 31st Oct - 3rd November! The last two years all the films have sold out so make sure to get your tickets in advance.
