We all love a relaxing massage for mind, body and spirit but is it more than just a guilty pleasure, do regular massage treatments help us to enhance our surfing progress as well?
Rachael Taylor from Innate life explains the relationship between massage treatment and how we perform on a wave.
"Massage has many benefits, such as relaxation, tension relief, improved circulation and flexibility but it also improves sporting performance.
If you have ever woken up with a stiff neck you will have noticed the impact it has on your rotation. During surfing flexibility is key to performance, restrictions such as a stiff neck will affect the way you turn as we all know that the rotation of the head is where the turn starts. If you can only turn your head slightly then your turn in the water will not be as dynamic.
Regular massage is likely to improve your performance because it helps keep you flexible therefore optimising your surfing performance."
Innate life offer Surf & Sport Specific, Deep Tissue, Aromatherapy, Swedish and Relaxation massage in the Newquay area and on many Surf Sistas trips and holidays.
